Intermediate Program



Intermediate riders are very familiar to the equine world. The Intermediate rider must be able to do everything listed in the Beginner Program with ease.

Intermediate rider sessions are approximately 40 minutes in length & since significant time is spent in preparing the horse and are asked to show up 15 minutes ahead of scheduled session so they can groom and tack up the horse. At the session’s appointed time, the Intermediate rider should be mounted (mounting block) and warming horse up in the appointed arena at a walk.
 A full 24 hour notice of any cancellation is requested.

Part I of the Intermediate Program:
* Being able to list at least 15 Equine Body Parts with ease.
* Be able to list at least 5 names of saddlery.
* Know how to walk, trot (knowing diagonals), canter (either learning or knowing leads), be able to trot over X rails or low verticals in Jumping Position, & and be able to properly negotiate a 20 meter (Large) circle and a 15 meter (Medium) circle @ the trot and a 20 meter circle at the canter.
* Knowing and be able to properly cool a horse out in cold and hot weather.


Part 2 of the Intermediate Program: (in addition to Part 1)

Learn to negotiate a small jumping course.
* Start learning to transitions within paces. (Lengthen trot & canter)
*Learn to negotiate a 15 meter circle at the canter.
Part 3 of the Intermediate Program: (In addition to the above)
* Learn how to negotiate a serpentine at the trot
* Learn how to negotiate a 10 meter (small) circle at trot and canter
* Learn to negotiate a small figure 8 with simple changes between


Part 4 of the Intermediate Program: (in addition to the above)
* Learn to negotiate small jumps on inclines and declines
* Start working over small jump gymnastics
* Practice a USDF Training Level Test
* Learn 3 new Equine Body Parts
* Know common signs of colic and what to do until the vet arrives

 

Moving on to the Advanced Program depends on how well the Intermediate can perform all of the above and on the Intermediate rider’s comfort level. MGRH will never push a rider beyond their comfort level.
